Demoplex Screen Capture takes screenshots — or, when you press Record, a screen recording — of pages you choose to capture, and sends them to your own Demoplex account so you can build demos and clickthroughs. Recordings capture video only: no microphone and no tab audio is ever recorded. It does not collect analytics, does not sell or share your data with third parties, and does not read or transmit the URLs, titles, or content of tabs you are not actively capturing.
| Permission | What it's used for |
|---|---|
activeTab |
Lets the extension capture a screenshot of the page you're currently viewing when you click the extension icon, press the capture keyboard shortcut, or run a capture session — only in direct response to your action. |
storage |
Saves your Demoplex sign-in session and your in-progress capture queue locally on your device, so the extension remembers you between clicks. |
scripting |
Adds the capture bar overlay to a tab when you start a capture there. Tabs you already had open before installing the extension would otherwise never show the capture controls. Used only when you start a capture. |
tabs |
Identifies which tab is active so the screenshot comes from the page you're actually looking at. Used only during a capture you started — it is not used to monitor your tabs or browsing history. |
unlimitedStorage |
Screenshots are large and screen recordings are larger still. Without this, Chrome's 10MB local-storage cap can be hit within a few captures and silently discards them. This keeps a capture or recording from being lost. The data stays on your device until you choose to send it. |
alarms |
Runs a short watchdog timer while your captures are uploading, so an upload that Chrome interrupts resumes where it left off instead of losing your work. Cleared as soon as the upload finishes. |
tabCapture |
Records the tab you chose as video, and only while a recording you started is running. Chrome shows its own recording indicator throughout, and no other tab is touched. Nothing is ever recorded in the background. |
offscreen |
Chrome's recording API needs a document to run in, which a Manifest V3 background worker does not have. This creates a hidden, non-visual page that holds the recorder while you record, and it is closed the moment recording stops. |
host_permissions (all sites) |
Required so the capture tool and its on-page bar can run on whatever page you choose to capture — the extension's purpose is capturing any site you're on, not a fixed list of domains. |
The extension handles the following, and only the following, data:
All data the extension sends leaves only to the Demoplex API
(api.demoplex.io) over an encrypted HTTPS connection,
scoped to your own account and workspace. Demoplex does not sell
user data or share it with third parties for advertising purposes.
Screenshots and demo content you upload are stored the same way as
content you upload directly through the Demoplex dashboard.
Your session token, cached profile, and any screenshots not yet
uploaded live in Chrome's local extension storage
(chrome.storage.local) on your own computer. This data
is removed automatically when you sign out of the extension, and is
deleted entirely if you uninstall the extension.
